Replace the day counter with a wear record
Counting calendar days hides what happened in them. An hour at a desk is not equivalent to a long run, and a shirt worn over an undershirt has a different history from one worn directly against the body. Use those differences to make the decision rather than trying to match someone else's wear streak.
Visible dirt, a spill or a buildup of residue is a reason to deal with the garment even if it does not smell. When a mark needs treatment, use the stain guide. If the whole shirt needs cleaning, follow its care instructions with our washing guide beside you.
Airing is a pause, not a wash
After light wear, let the shirt air before deciding whether to wear it again. Keep worn-but-usable pieces separate enough that you remember their history. This makes the next laundry decision easier without treating a tidy drawer as evidence that everything in it is clean.
For the science behind the less noticeable smell, see merino odor resistance. The practical question here is whether this shirt needs cleaning after what you did in it.
Make the next use part of the decision
A shirt you would happily put on for another quiet morning might not be the one you choose for an important meeting. That is a reasonable personal standard, not a failure of the fibre. Clothing can be acceptable for one purpose without being the piece you want for every occasion.
When traveling, decide on a washing opportunity before the rotation becomes empty. Keep at least one usable shirt available while another is being cleaned and dried. The packing planner can help organize a rotation around your laundry opportunities; it should not be read as a promise that every top remains wearable until the planned wash.
Avoid solving the wrong problem with more detergent
If the shirt smells unpleasant immediately after washing, reconsider the washing and drying process rather than deciding it must need washing every day forever. Our post-wash odor guide separates that troubleshooting problem from ordinary wear.
Can I wear a merino shirt twice before washing?
After light use, you may choose to if it is dry, unsoiled and acceptable for the next use. Assess the garment rather than assuming two wears are always appropriate.
Does airing merino remove sweat and stains?
Airing is not laundering. It does not remove a spill or the material left behind during wear; deal with those according to the shirt's care instructions.
